In today’s blog, I’m going to talk to you about a technique that I think is going to explode over the next couple of years: mid strolling, or mid-depth strolling. If you’re out there chasing suspended fish and struggling to get them to bite, mid strolling is the technique you need to know. This is a finesse technique designed to trigger those tough, suspended fish into striking, something you can’t always do with traditional baits or methods. I’m excited to dive into the details and give you the inside scoop on what’s been working for me. So, let’s break it […]

Suspended Bass in Rivers?
Life’s crazy, man! A few weeks ago on the Upper Mississippi River I had an experience that might help you sometime in the future so I’m going to tell you all about it. Usually you find river bass shallow. That didn’t happen to me, though. They were deep and they were suspended. It sounds crazy but it’s true. I caught them in two types of places and with two different lures. Here’s how it went down… The first place I found them was out in the main river over the channel. They were suspended anywhere between 10 and 30 feet […]
The Soner Euro Cup
After some street fishing in Paris late this summer, we moved on to Spain. We — Becky, myself and the youngest kids — spent a couple of days in Madrid before I fished the Soner Euro Cup on Lake Cigara near Madrid. My partner and I won it! How cool is that? The Euro Cup was a really exciting experience for me. There were something like 125-130 boats with two man teams in them. As best I can remember there were something like 25 or 30 countries represented, some of them from thousands of miles away. And, as you might […]
Ike Targets New York City
OK, so hopefully everyone had a chance to watch the first episode of FISH MY CITY WITH MIKE IACONELLI on NAT GEO WILD last night. If you had as much fun watching it as I did making it, you had a ball. Here’s the thing about shows like that–they are real. We don’t fake film footage and we don’t cover over our mistakes or our struggles. We show it all, good and not-so-good. You get to experience fishing just the way it was at the time. The one about New York City fishing was especially fun for me. I grew […]
It’s Buzzbait Time
From now until winter, buzzbaits will prove to be some of the most effective lures you can throw. They are good in a wide variety of cover situations, or when there’s no cover at all, and they’re easy to fish. This is the way I see it… My preference in buzzbaits is the Molix Lover Buzz and the Lover Buzz SS. They’re a little different from any of the others that are around. Instead of having a sharp bend down with a wire back to the shaft it has a short bend down and the wire drops right into the […]
Spybaits are the Real Deal
I’ve talked before about how some lures and techniques travel around the world. Spybaits are a perfect example of how that happens. They started in Japan, moved on to the West Coast and are now starting to get popular in the Midwest. Spybaits are simple enough, really. They have a cylindrical body with a prop on each end. The idea is to let the lure fall to where the bass are holding and then gently bring it back with little or no motion other than a smooth glide forward. The props are, or should be, turning slowly to give the […]
Better Tackle Storage
Tackle storage isn’t the sexiest topic we can talk about. Nevertheless, it’s important. Knowing what you have with you and where it’s at can mean the difference between catching bass and not catching them. I’ve been frustrated with ordinary storage boxes for a number of years. They work OK for some things but little things can be a problem. The dividers slip up and terminal tackle like small hooks, split rings, snaps, swivels and nail weights get mixed up and end up in a jumbled mess. The result is that you don’t always know what you have and, even if […]
